why am I opening myself up to more hurt if it's not something the other person does in kind?

but you're right this isn't fair to you.

did you see what happened with my brother at the performance?
the Dame made him drink her blood
that was my fault
I asked her to keep him from being hurt in her performances
and I guess that's how she interpreted it
but obviously he wasn't happy about it
he ended up getting hurt more than he would have otherwise
and it's all my fault
